I visit the home regularly. The staff are very good to my brother. The facilities are old and badly in need of replacement. Wasnt it once said that a new facility was in the works across from Banwell Gardens in the vacant lot. It would help if patients were given a few benches and or plastic lawn chairs so they can enjoy the shade in front of the home.Staff are always polite and helpful to me on my visits. Meal plans look excellent and there are quite a number of activities planned for patients each day on a calendar in rooms.Recently attempts were made to spruce up the hallways and rooms a bit. Thats appreciated. I believe that the staff at Banwell Gardens are doing their very best for patients needing a great deal of care. We saw during the COVID crisis how few PSWs are available. Nurses, nurse practitioners are also in short supply.I have seen the conditions in a supportive care facility run by the City in Windsors West end. It provides the bare essential needs for residents but not much more. Frankly when I left this place over my many visits I left depressed and discouraged for my brother and all of the residents who live there. However, many of the residents of this place have nowhere else to go and no money, savings, insurance to get them there. Many are probably without family. People in Windsor see people sleeping on benches, on cardboard, in tents and other squalid conditions in one of of the most affluent countries in the world.Despite all of the shortcomings of the rest homes or supportive housing homes licensed and regulated by the City of Windsor, these places serve a vital need. They house, feed, provide basic medical care, laundry services and many other thing to residents. It is not uncommon for former psychiatric patients to be discharged to these places.Despite all of the complaints that could be made, we should count our blessings that we have homes for our most vulnerable.Sincerely,
David Dimitrie
never in my life have I ever been disrespected like I have at banwell. They are so mean to employees and as a former employee I was so disgusted by how gross their showers are, like toilet bowl covers broken on the ground, client toilet bowls dirty with feces. I wonder how they ever passed inspection. Some psws treat residents very poorly, for example they will leave them unchanged because it was time of thier break and keep them till after, I will never trust my family in thier care. I know it’s lot of work to have 11 or 12 resident at once but you can’t leave a resident on the toilet for almost half an hour or to belittle a resident to go to bed because you don’t want to have work to do on your shift. Elderly are sensitive to ulcers so it’s important to reposition every 2 hours to avoid them when I was there it will go 4 hours and no one would come to check on that resident. There are never enough wash cloths to clean a resident you are limited to one per resident can you imagine you being cleaned with one cloth... too much elderly verbal abuse. It’s really sad for the amount of money they charge they can make thier facility cleaner or have proper air conditioners.
