It’s actually quite shameful that my application was declined because part of my continued disability is a functional neurological disorder that occurred from a brain injury. But they won’t accept me for the brain injury and severe disability, because they have no staff that understands FNDs as a disabling condition, but rather have a poor understanding of it, similar to 80% of “trained” medical system who see it a manifestation of anxiety.
I had a conversation about this with my neurologist, and neuro-psychologist. Both were extremely disheartened by this decision from SABI, because they’re not caught up with latest research in neurology. One medical practitioner mentioned, “ that’s 3rd grade treatment from an institution that should have the knowledge of how brain injuries actually work.”
SABIS is a fantastic organization with the most caring and compassionate staff.
They have great support groups ( for survivors and for caregivers) and various other activities and groups.
Their staff will help you fill out applications and find resources that you need
I highly recommend reaching out to SABIS if you or a loved one lives with a brain injury !!
I wouldn't have the ability/will to cope with life itself from multiple life challenges. ability to achieve the life goals I have gone through in my life accomplishments of many types. The greatest thing of all was the capability to accept friends and after brain surgery for epilepsy twenty years ago. Causing me to loose and understand emotions and friendship
A great place to help anyone regarding a brain injury! I live for Wednesday mornings indeed. SABIS helps those with any type of brain work on good recovery programs. After being accepted, they help tailor a great program aimed at recovery ASAP. My brain injury was due to excessive booze, and they helped for a great recovery plan. Booze can kill portions of your brain permanently, but through tough very hard work neuroplasticity takes place. This helps undisturbed parts assist injured bran portions to at least partly recovery and carry on. They helped save my life!! WOW!! Family
kissed me goodbye and headed back east (Maritimes). SABIS is in there long term and God nows they have helped immensely indeed! I'm sure that without the programs from them, I would lkely be 6 feet (or deeper!) under by now! God Bless SABIS from TFW
SABIS is a great company! They helped me in ways the big corporate world didn't! There weekly program was a HUGE asset for me. The program is constantly full because of its success!
