10 months agoDisappointed. That is the most appropriate word of how I summarize the services provided and my final interactions with Sheena. I will not go into detail, but I would advise anyone considering these services to do the following: 1. First review if your insurance will cover the services. Sheena is a member of the Canadian College of Professional Counsellors & Psychotherapists (CCPCP), but this affiliation is not covered by many insurance providers. 2. Monitor all billing closely. I would not advise allowing Sheena to direct bill and that you pay after each session. I would also recommend that you request her to indicate when a session ends to track when extra charges will apply. Ensure that you are aware of and approve any additional billing. 3. Request full disclosure upfront on any additional assessment expenses. Ask for a written quote of total costs for additional assessments prior to conducting said assessments. 4. Ask that the therapist's cell phone is turned off during sessions to prevent distractions to both patient and therapist. It is a distraction even when set to 'vibrate'. 5. Review notes at the end of each session for accuracy and to ensure that you are both aligned. Clarify any inconsistencies. 6. Request that any documentation (such as specific assessments) are reviewed for grammatical errors, spelling errors, and accuracy by a technical writer (or at the very least use Microsoft Word 'Spelling and Grammar').Overall, I found Sheena very easy to talk to and personable. She did provide some insight to me regarding my therapy needs, but fell short when providing a technical assessment. The stress with dealing with the elevated billing, insurance approval, and disappointing final assessment document far outweighed any benefits I received from the therapy sessions. My final meeting with Sheena was to review the elevated billing for services provided and the deficient assessment; both of which were left unresolved. Ironically, I was charged a full rate therapy session for the 5 minute meeting with Sheena to discuss both of these issues. Again, I would not recommend these therapy services based on my experiences and interactions.Note: I fully aligned with all the points brought forward in the review completed by Patrick Delaney.

11 months agoSheena is certainly personable and for me was a good sounding board. If you can afford her billing rate, she bills at a psychologist rate so your insurance will only consider half of her rate, her services might work for you. While she made some recommendations that were most certainly out of her scope (legal and medical) her approach served me for four sessions ranging between 1.5 and 2 hrs each. Her billing method lacks a little professionalism and detail, the "receipt" she provided, meets the bare minimum, no tracking number and poor detail and this might cause you some issues with insurance claims. The business number my insurance company had for her did not match the ones she provided, it had been suspended and revoked in the province of Ontario but this is likely due to an administrative classification. The receipt also lacked itemisation, for example, for some of my sessions a 3.5% charge was added to my credit card yet did not appear on my receipt. Essentially her charges did not match the amounts found on her provided receipt. On other sessions this rate was of 7% and again the amounts were not found on my receipt. We had agreed on monthly billing yet she billed me after every session without providing notification and only provided her "spreadsheet receipt" after I emailed her requesting an invoice. She never provided a detailed receipt for the items explained above. Credit card charges in Alberta are of 2.4% per transaction so the 3.5% and 7% charges make little to no sense. Do to her lack of desire to clarify, I have been forced to proceed and move my questions regarding these charges with my credit card and appropriate governing bodies. A disappointing turn of events for an otherwise reasonable experience.Regardless of the reason, administrative fees or other, a professionals should clarify and detail their charges on their receipt, this is not simply a best practice, like a tracking number, but a requirement!
