Wedgwood Christian Services

Wedgwood is a great place to work! People are so friendly, and there are quite a few events for connecting with coworkers. The therapists in the outpatient Bouma Counseling Center and Wraparound Services are skilled and professional. I'm so thankful to be part of what this place is doing to serve West Michigan.

I have been involved with Wedgwood for 8 years as a board member and volunteer. Wedgwood tackles some of the most challenging social problems in our community. They are driven by the desire to spread the love of God to those in need. The employees are dedicated to the mission and compassionately helping the children and families that come into their care. Wedgwood and it’s employees make a positive difference in the lives of those they serve and a positive contribution to our community.

There is a serious lack of communication within the company as well as those making referrals to the company. No psych dr, hasn't been for quite some time. Had an appointment in October to see a psych dr, an hr before the appointment I was called and told the appointment was canceled EARLIER that month when the policy changed. Dr's should recommend a place for psych meds if there's no dr there to see.

We have been VERY happy with Wedgewood until yesterday. My son was seen by a new doctor who was very unprofessional. She didn't answer his questions, messed around with her jewelry, acting like she didn't even want to be in the meeting. My son is 12, he was very upset at the end of the meeting as NONE of his concerns were addressed or answered. She also stated that she was leaving at the end of the month and didn't know who or when they would have a new doctor. Hoping whom ever they hire will be a better fit than this person.

I was a patient in the Riebel program from June 9th 2023 to July 17 2023 when I ran away. There was never enough staff for the staff client ratio. Kids were never allowed to express emotions. You were told you were dumb, rude or disrespectful if you talked about your past, like we didn't know. We were there to get help and change, but they just made us feel worse. kids had been there for a week, 3 months, 6 months, 10 months, year and a half, three years nobody seemed like they were getting help. I saw the therapist 2-3 times in my 38 days of being there which was supposed to be 1-2 times a week. Staff stated they were only there for the paycheck "and it's not much anyway". They also filmed fights between the other girls in my program instead of helping. They filmed me having panic attacks and self-harming and repeatedly asked "are you done yet?" Made you wear sweatshirts and sweatpants if you had scars, you weren't allowed out of your room if you had open wounds. They told me one of my assaults was my fault and I should have prevented it. Would put on church services every sunday and made you pray before dinner even though they said they didn't force religion, but told you to "just ignore it" if you didn't want to listen. My plan was six to nine months and they told me they knew I wouldn't have been able to do it. I fought a staff, grabbed her keys out of her hand with another girl, broke 2 boys out and ran away. We ran from police and stayed in woods. They later found me at 28th and division and brought me home. I went to court and was sentenced to a juvie program. I got out in two months, was one of the top 3 to complete the program and am way better than before. i was terrible before, but I just got worse at wedgwood. If juvie was better than this place that's saying a lot because juvie was awful. Not nearly as bad compared to this place.
