"A" for effort. If I was on my way to jump off a ledge and went for an intervention through CMHA, I would have gone straight back to the ledge after my appointment. Some points to consider:1) Give the patient an opportunity to respond without interruptions. My counselor talked over me repeatedly. I started to think he didn't actually want me to answer his questions.2) Don't suggest that the patient doesn't seem like they belong at a crisis centre.3) Take time to investigate what the patient actually wanted to talk to you about. Chances are they are there because they want to work through it even if it has to be with a random stranger.4) Consider that this was not their first choice. Honour their courage beyond a simple verbal acknowledgement. Let your practice prove your words.5) The service is advertised as unlimited with regard to timeframe, but yet I felt pushed out of the room. The counselor seemed uncomfortable and inexperienced. I could tell because he kept leaning on relating my unique experience to his own life. Professional malpractice 101.Just like many professions, the mental health sector appears to be striving to ensure they have enough bodies available without the proper training. The crisis centre is in crisis per this experience if you ask me. Fortunately, I am not in as life threatening of a position as I imagine others are.I am grateful for this service, but I'd be hesistant to try them again in the future to be completely honest.
i'm grateful for all the help over the years. i don't mean to be rude to anyone... it's always women that are on the crisis line. it's embarrassing asking for help. i was uncomfortable talking to the crisis team (three women) and one of them told me i need to get out more (agoraphobia and social anxiety are two things i'm diagnosed with). if i was a woman uncomfortable talking about my personal problems with men would they say i need to get out more? this is why men don't seek help. i have no one to talk to and i'm struggling a lot. i'm writing this review instead of calling for help.
I've been twice now and both times they have been incredibly helpful in reception and in appointment. I've been suffering badly mentally for the past week and came here because of how bad it was getting. Both of the times I've went have helped me immensely and I have hope for the future. Thank you so much.
I went here very recently and the person they had 'help' me was not very helpful. You don't tell someone who is depressed and crying about their situation to "just stay positive" I feel even worse after going here.
Beware they share private information, informed that what they say is private, but then shared this information, with a mentally challenged individual. Which caused irreparable consequences. They are being reported for breach of PHIPA. Beware.
