I felt so bullied and pressured by the nurses during my labor experience , I have had the mindset and decision from early in my pregnancy that unless baby or myself was in danger or having complications ; that I did not want Pitocin. I got into the labor and delivery room and that is the first thing the nurse tried to put into my IV , I expressed I did not feel comfortable with that and she made it seem like I did not have a choice. I felt so rushed because every nurse after her kept upping the dosage that was going into my body and because they rushed my labor so fast with the Pitocin I had a horrible delivery . The whole experience felt like they just wanted me out of there so they could have a free room I am a first time mom and first labors take 24-48 hours and I was in labor for maybe 12 ? I wish I could go back and scream at every nurse and Doctor who made me feel like I didn’t have a choice or ask for my consent with everything they did ti me . I will say all the postpartum nurses were AMAZING . But I will forever be angry at the labor and delivery staff . Always remember to advocate for yourself no matter what ! I wish I didn’t let them run me over how they did . They are working for you !

Delivered a baby here in December 2022, and received excellent care. Best of my 2 hospital birth experiences by far. Very caring and competent nurses. UMC offers classes, doulas (free w hospital, but book ahead), and lactation support.

They say this birthing center has a high rating but I had a horrible experience here. If you are looking for supportive birthing staff, look somewhere else. I was bullied, lied to, and manipulated during my whole labor. The anesthesiologist was on a power trip and wouldn’t even let my husband in the room for the c-Section. This was my fourth baby so I know how patient are supposed to be treated and they were awful. The only positive was the postpartum staff. They were very wonderful. I am still processing the trauma and abuse from the staff here. Wish I could go back in time and make a different decision.

Overall from labor to recovery this hospital went above and beyond. The nurses from both areas were fantastic and very sweet and helpful. They were able to facilitate to my needs, keep us informed about our newborn and the care was fantastic. The Texas Tech Pediatric team oversaw our newborn while he was there, and nothing but good things to say about the doctors and the way they handled our son. I would and will definitely recommend this hospital to anyone who asks for my opinion about it!

I gave birth last week at UMC's Family Birth Center. This was my third baby, but my first to be born in Lubbock. I would've rated my experience at the hospital my first two children were born at as "excellent", but my experience at UMC takes the cake. I was blown away by the incredible care we were provided, and especially impressed by the education provided. That was something my first two births lacked - patient education. I would highly recommend this hospital for any birth, but especially for first-time parents. I wish I would've had the resources and help UMC provided me the first two times around.
