Muir Wood's is a dangerous facility to put your kids in the care of. Let me be very clear on that. The communication during my daughters stay was filled with lies, a lack of communication and completely unprofessional. I would never send my child here or recommend this facility to my worst enemy. Please, please if you are looking for residential care for your child go elsewhere. You are only putting your child in danger in this facility.

I don’t know why my review was deleted but I’ll keep putting a review so other parents are aware. They will not monitor your child. They didn’t even allow me to talk to the staff who was last seen with my child. The staff allowed my child to run away. She fell into trafficking in Petaluma I found her 5 weeks later fighting for her life. Find another place this could also happen to your child.Since I cannot reply to the below I will edit my post. Allowing an unauthorized adult to supervise my child who was then allowed to be in an area ALONE gave a window for her to run. Your therapist on staff told our family because level one was already full my child had to be at the resident with no cameras and full of open windows to run. This place is horrible and I hope no other kids fall into trafficking due to the lack of responsibility.

At the scariest time of our lives my son was able to recover from Psychosis at Muir Wood in Petaluma & has been on a positive path since. It’s exactly what we needed to help stabilize him & are so very grateful for his time there. Thank you to everyone, especially his therapist Lars!!! My only suggestion is to individualize each kids rules to their circumstances/needs. I believe he could’ve had an even better experience there & easier recovery in his mental health had he been able to go on all outings to feel some normalcy again which was direly needed for him.

Our child had medication resistant severe depression. Muir Woods helped find the right medication and provided a supportive environment over covid no less. My child is thriving and we both agree that even though it was a hard period, it was the best choice to get them treatment. The tutors worked with his teachers and he maintained a 4.0 while getting better.

Our son was helped by the Muir Wood program. He was there for 45 days - working hard to learn and improve, and then had a setback where he then received additional support for several weeks. He came out much better than when he went in. We are appreciative of all the efforts Muir Wood has made in developing their program, and to the people there (professionals and general staff) who all provided their care and support. In addition, the family program is really good for parents (zoom meetings available at least four days a week). The physical facility is excellent and all the staff work hard to help the kids get better. We were impressed by both the program and the staff.Of course, the magic ingredient is participation by the kids where the staff work to bring out the best in each kid. We are particularly appreciative of being able (after a brief initial period) of being able to stay in touch nearly each day with a brief phone call with our son. For our son having access to the gym and basketball court etc. on a daily basis was a big deal. Having physical activity in the good weather was important to his healing. Also, the weekend outings give the kids something fun to look forward to each week. These things really complemented the individual and group therapy work involved. Also, the weekly family meetings were very helpful and important. This helped us to be involved in our son’s recovery process. We are grateful for all the help and support we received and are looking forward as parents to participating in the post Muir Woods family program (zoom) that is provided at no additional cost to families.I urge all families to engage with the family program the day your kid starts at Muir Wood to get the biggest benefit possible - as the work needed to heal and bring the family together is very helpful for the kids and for the family to recover together.—— My son reviewed this post and approved its message as being accurate from his perspective and experience.
